Steve Jobs said, “about half of what separates successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is perseverance.” This advice is often inverted to say that passion is needed to pull you through the low times when nothing seems to be working. In my own experience and with coaching other small business leaders, when a new marketing initiative is under performing or new software feature isn’t producing, or direct reports are looking to you to referee their squabbles, it’s the mindset of persistence that has been the most critical factor to success to see things through to a solution or resolution. When the chips are down, you’ll find that Steve Jobs’ advice is what you need to hang in there as you gain new perspective, call in other perspectives, and come up with a solution – look for persistence first. Has this been your experience, too?
